Soylent Green
“The scoops are on their way! I repeat, the scoops are on their way!”
A few interesting scenarios (urban poverty, massive overpopulation, served by megacorporations) clothed in a fairly ridiculous looking film. There are some funny bits, like the awkward staircase traversal scenes (almost all the staircases in the film are covered in sleeping people…), the riot scoops (check them out on the youtube link, there’s something about them that is at once chilling and absurd to the point of peculiarly funny), and almost all the scenes where everyday items are excessively enjoyed because in the future they are so rare. The ‘furniture’ concept is a little awkward but I think is basically a strange attempt at feminism by reductio ad absurdum.
Entertaining, classic sci-fi anyway.
